Hey Newbie! You're finally in high school, where you'll experience all types of weird, unique, happy, and sad times. Highschool is not easy, but with the help of these tips you'll rock freshmen year the way you're supposed to!

1. Be Original

It's very important to start your high school career being yourself. Everyone always thinks that the way to survive high school is to fit in: wear what everyone else wears, talk like everyone else talks, look like everyone else looks, might as well breathe at the same time as everyone else! … however, that's impossible. Get my point?

If you want to survive Highschool, be yourself. If you want to make lots of friends and be someone special, don't be like everyone else because you won't stand out.

Wear what you want to wear.

Express yourself how you want to.

Talk how you want to.

Add your own spices and be someone others will remember.

Be OG!

2. Join As Many Clubs and Organizations As You Can

Clubs are a crucial part of high school because that is how you'll be able to find new talents, potential career options, and show leadership.

When you enter high school, most likely your school will have many clubs and organizations for you to join. It's important to go to any club fairs your school holds, so you can get exposure and understand potential clubs you might like. If there are not club fairs to visit, go to as many club introductory meetings as you can.

The first couple meetings a club holds will give you the biggest hint on what the rest of the club year will look like. If you don't like what you're seeing, then you can leave.

Also don't feel as if it is necessary to stick to any clubs you liked throughout high school. Essentially, you want to be able to pick out 4-5 clubs you really enjoy for your next 2-3 years in high school.

Remember, these clubs are supposed to represent who you are as a student and person! Don't follow your friends, follow your passions! if you don't find a club you really wish you could join, make your own!

3. Keep A Close Relationship With Your Teachers

I am not telling you to suck up to your teachers! I mean, don't be afraid to be open with teachers. Teachers want to help you learn and develop yourself to grow as a student. If you show that you are willing to learn, they will gladly guide you to really good opportunities that can help you in the future. For example, asking questions about class material, letting them know what you are doing outside of class, and asking them advice about things you would like to learn more about:

"Hey Mr. Devotee, how was your weekend?"

"Hey Mrs. Devotee, I didn't understand this problem on the homework, can you help me?"

"Hey Ms. English Teacher, I've been reading this awesome new book about dragons and strawberries, Have you heard about it? Do you have any recommendations?"

By being friendly with your teachers, you will not only gain help to understand what you're learning in class, but you'll gain their attention. Then they can reach out you if they have any opportunities for you to learn from. You can also ask them for a recommendation letter if you need one for college admissions.

4. Make New Friends

Connections are very important in high school! They can help you when you are looking for summer jobs and/or internships, and if you run for elections like class president and/or executive board of a club. You don't need to be best friends with everyone, but at least be well-acquainted and friendly with your classmates.

Also, by befriending more people you learn more about different perspectives and ways of thinking. In middle school, you most likely had your friend group that stuck together like magnets and did everything together, and most likely you all were really similar to each other. However, once you get to high school you won't have your friends by your side as much as you did before. Soon, you'll be acquainted with all types of people of different backgrounds, and that will be the perfect opportunity to make new friends. You might even find a new passion from talking to others!

Don't forget that you are perfect the way you are! Well, you should learn from others and be inspired to improve yourself. But you don't need to adjust yourself to fit to someone else's liking. Not everyone needs to like you, and you won't be compatible with everyone. You will experience friendship drama and breakups. However, those are experiences to learn from and grow from. A lot of valuable lessons can be learned from failures.

5. Don't Let Your Jitters Get To You

High school isn't as scary as you think. The most important thing to do is work hard academic-wise and extracurricular-wise to show the type of student and individual you are. If things don't go your way...WHO CARES! Don't let it bring you down, and just get back up again. High school is not a smooth ride, but that's what makes it challenging. Make sure to seek help if you need it, and to push through challenges.
